3 students, 1 adult shot after classes end at Jordan High

Looks like a busy start to the weekend here in Houston. This is getting all to common.

Four people, including three Houston school district students, were shot shortly after classes were dismissed this afternoon at Barbara Jordan High School, officials said.

A 17-year-old junior at Jordan was shot about 4 p.m. while crossing the 4000 block of Kelley to get into his uncle's car, said Houston ISD spokesman Norm Uhl. He was taken to LBJ Hospital and may be released tonight, Uhl said.

The student's uncle was also shot, officials said late Friday. His condition is not known.

He had been involved in an altercation at a nearby convenience store, Friendly Tommy Grocery, at 4003 Kelley, officials said.

Moments later, two girls who were sitting at the Kashmere Transit Center at the corner of Hirsch and Kelley were shot, said Metro spokeswoman Carolina Mendoza. One girl attended Jordan and the other Kashmere High School, Uhl said.

They were taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, one with a gunshot to the face and one with a gunshot to the leg, said Metro spokesman George Smalley.

Authorities are working to determine if the shootings, and the teens, are related.

``A relative of the young man who was shot does know the two girls,'' Smalley said.

Three men fled after the shootings, he added.

Both incidents remain under investigation and no further information was immediately available.
