Police: Mom decapitated 3-week-old after hearing voices

SAN ANTONIO, Texas--A quiet San Antonio home turned into a bloody crime scene after police discovered the mutilated body of a newborn baby boy. Amidst the chaos and screaming by family members, they found the 3-week-old infant had been decapitated.

Police said they were responding to a call about a cutting in the 300 block of Wayside Drive, but made the gruesome discovery of the murdered newborn once inside.

Officers said the mother was sitting on the couch, screaming that she had murdered her baby. She said voices had instructed her to do it.

They said she appeared to have suffered some sort of mental breakdown.

Police said 33-year-old Otty Sanchez stabbed and decapitated her newborn, Scott Sanchez, then turned the knife on herself.

The mother had self-inflicted stab wounds to her chest and stomach.

She was transported to the hospital in critical condition, but is now listed in stable condition.

Other family members were home at the time but did not know what happened until it was too late.

They made the discovery around 4 am on Sunday.

They took the baby away from the mother and the suspect’s sister called the police.

Police said they are not sure exactly what weapon killed the child.

They recovered a kitchen knife and two swords on the scene.

Police said they will charge the mother with capital murder.
